Advice about inspection pipe and manholes

Hello,

I've got two small concrete manhole covers in my front garden about five feet apart. One has an inspection pipe and the other was full of silt until I dug down a foot and hit solid stone and what looks like a capped off pipe. I've linked two pictures on Photo Bucket. Image one is the working drain (I think) and image two looks to be no longer active.

Image two - https://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah ... wpxumu.jpg

I'm selling the house and the buyer wants me to fix the blocked off drain, but I don't think it needs fixing. It doesn't go anywhere.

I'm on the end of a row of houses and wondered if the blocked off manhole indicates the end of the drainage for these houses. Honestly, I have no clue what I'm talking about, so any drain expert out there is welcome to suggest what's really going on.

I've asked Anglian Water for a drainage map to see what's going on and have been met with confusion and silence.

Any suggestions welcome :)

Welcome to the forum Kaz, is it the buyer or has it come up on a survey and what do they say the problem is that needs fixing?

Hi,

No, it didn't come up on the survey - they had a basic survey just to secure the mortgage. A friend of the buyer is a builder and lifted the manhole cover that is blocked off. After that, the buyer asked if I'd clear out the drain prior to exchange. I'm still prodding the water company for details of the house's drainage, but no luck with getting a reply :(

Hi,
Guess I`m missing something, if all the wastes in the house drain without problem and you cleared out the rubbish from one manhole what more can you do.

Hi Kaz have you unscrewed these caps? .....being in the front garden I wonder that at least one could be access to your stopcock to turn off the water to your property.....let us know how you get on....regards Turnpin :D
