Genuine question, -
Noticed bathroom taps in a rental home that have the tap aerators blocked badly with black coloured crud.
I managed to clean them.
I reckon previous tenant didn’t use bath taps much as there is an electric shower.
The taps have the open flow ‘grid’ type aerators and system is mostly low pressure tank fed.
Cold tank is clean and has lid etc.
(I actually did the entire house plumbing probably about 25 years ago).
Thinking while the house is vacant I should cleanse the entire stored water.
Any ideas what safe but effectual ingredient should be used? It could be left in system to cleanse for a few days if needed.
Thanks for your thoughts

Suspect the black stuff is just dried out algae which lines mose pipes. When its not used it it then flakes off - yuk!

Would have thought taps not being used should be subject to the same regime that the landlord should advise re an unused shower head should be for legionella control. Run it for ten minutes every week.
