Put your Central Heating System question in here.

Hi, I'd appreciate any help with this prob;em When I require hot water during the Summer months and haven't had the central heating on everything is fine. In the Winter, when the central heating is on/been on and I turn the hot water on, the instant the hot water reaches temp and switches off, there is what sounds like water hammer banging through the house. Could the 3 way valve be the problem? Many thanks in advance for any help.

Yes, as the valve is no longer energized for hot water the spring returns valve to close off coil. This can cause resonance in adjacent pipework as flow through valve reduces to zero. Most likely in loose inadequately secured pipes. Roll up towel and jamb against pipe in suspect area. once identified give pipework additional support, but not at half way point.
