What about leaving it and fitting one of them self drilling self tapping self sealing vents?

Thank you for that! I will take a look at them.
I had thought of using freeze spray on the old screw to see it it might break the hold it has. But I don't have much hope of it working

It is an old Barlo rad and the screws in them can seize solid.
Only way to cut a slot in the screw head is with a Dremell, but it is one tool I don't have.
A friend has one he doesn't use much, so that's an idea.
